Parks and Playgrounds
Find out what is in your backyard, and explore the many parks across the Rockhampton Region. From our majestic Botanic and Kershaw Gardens to local suburban playgrounds, many of our parks and playgrounds have dedicated picnic and BBQ facilities.
Residents and visitors can book ceremonies, events or private functions in parks across the Region. Click here to find a park near you.
Skate parks
There are a number of skate parks for skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX riders across the Region including:
Dog off-leash areas
You can exercise your dog in several off-leash areas where they can play, exercise freely and socialise with other dogs.
National parks
Mount Archer National Park forms part of the Berserker Ranges. At 604m, it is our highest peak with spectacular views across Rockhampton. Mount Archer was named after the early pioneers of the Rockhampton area. It includes:
- open forest with lush subtropical rainforest
- wildlife haven
- lookouts and walks
- mountain-top café.
Bird watching
Council has constructed a bird and wildlife viewing platform overlooking the lagoons on Lakes Creek The platform is open daily 7am to 5pm Monday to Sunday.
Park naming
There are many parks in the Region that are named after residents who have made a valuable contribution to our community. If you would like to nominate a park to be named after someone, make a submission to Council using the nomination form.
Planning for parks
Council has developed the Rockhampton Regional Council Regional Open Space Plan and the Regional Playgrounds Strategy to help with the implementation and development of parks within the Region.
