Your local library runs a wide range of activities for all ages. Check out the What's On at the Library Program for this month. 

 

Children

Story Fun for Young Children

Take your pick of regular storytime sessions for young children at each of our library branches, as well as baby bounce sessions. The story sessions feature a range of stories, rhymes, songs, dances and creative play for our youngest library members - with the Lively Babies' sessions designed as a lap-sit program full of rhymes, songs and literacy fun for new parents and their infant.

Storytime in other languages

Guest storytellers from the local community will share baby bounce rhymes, songs, stories and picture books in other languages throughout the year at both the Northside and Southside libraries. Come and meet parents in the community and discover new rhymes and stories to share with your child.

Lively Chess

Come and play games of chess with new opponents each week and increase skills and confidence with a qualified chess facilitator and coach. Adults, teens and children of all ages are welcome.

Lively Family Movies

Enjoy a selection of free family-friendly movies at the Southside Library (Fitzroy Room) during the school holidays.

Lively LEGO Club

Get creative and let your imagination run wild with LEGO® bricks at the libraries.

The all age activity encourages play, inquiry and communication in a relaxed setting. Young children under five years will need to be accompanied by a parent or carer.

Baby Play (0-12mths)

The Baby Play sessions are especially for families with babies aged from birth to 12 months. Engaging baby's senses through baby paced play, rhyme and shared stories, these sessions give parents and carers the tools to help their babies grow through play.

Sing and Play (12mths+)

The Sing and Play sessions are designed to provide children over 12 months of age and parents/caregivers opportunities for shared play, singing and reading, supporting the language and literacy development of children in the first five years of their life.

Dads Read

Dads Read aims to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of fathers and families reading with their children, particularly in their early developmental years. Join in free, fun, Dads Read storytime events and activities to encourage dads to get reading with their children. Each month, a special 'guest storyteller Dad' from the worlds of sport, media, culture, business or education will drop into the library to share a story on a Saturday morning.

Read With Me

Introduce your child to the wonderful world of books and stories through imaginative play, drama, song, dance and fingerplays. Learn some simple tips for early literacy development with the First Five Forever initiative. Lively Rhyme Time will take place at the North Rockhampton Library, Mount Morgan Library and Gracemere Library, from 10am – 11am.

Youth

Anime/Manga Drawing Club

Join the weekly Anime/Manga Club as they create anime artwork in the weeks leading up to CapriCon 2019. In February, artists will work on A3 illustration boards in developing their unique anime character over a number of sessions using pen and watercolours, textas, coloured pencils, charcoal or pastels in a stunning art-piece for display.

Lively STEM Club

Learn and play with a variety of robotics and other STEM-based activities each month at the Lively STEM Club.

Aimed at upper primary and high school students, the club is held on the last Monday of the month at the Gracemere Library. Bookings are essential. Please call 07 49368 043.

Adults

Lively Knitting & Crochet Clubs

Every week, a group of keen knitters and crafters use yarn donated by the community to create warm items for the Homeless Connect initiative held annually in Rockhampton. Learn skills and make new friends in this hive of craft activity at the library.

Lively Book Club

Book clubs offer the opportunity to read a variety of books and discuss authors, titles and genres with other keen readers in a relaxed, informal setting. Be part of a diverse group and discover new authors on your book club journey. All ages, interests and reading abilities are welcome to attend.

Monday Movies

The popular Monday Movies return in 2018, with Gracemere Library and Rockhampton Regional Library hosting old movies in the Library. Enjoy a range of classic documentaries, musicals, feature films and drama in a relaxed setting. A selection of free classic films from the National Film and Sound Archives will screen at 10.00am at the Rockhampton Regional Library and Gracemere Library throughout the year. Lively Trivia

Come along to a free trivia session at the Northside Library each month – test your knowledge and learn something new. Each month a new theme will be presented in fast and furious fashion with the Library Trivia Team over a morning cuppa. The sessions are open to all ages - join a table or bring your own team.

Mah-jong @ Mount Morgan

Playing mah-jong is a great activity for all ages as it develops memory, hones tactics and encourages calculation. Join the mah-jong action at the Mount Morgan Library every Thursday from 2.00pm- 4.00pm.

Lively Laughter Yoga

Have loads of fun and laugh yourself into a positive frame of mind and an improved sense of wellbeing at the free Laughter Yoga session at the library. Laughter Yoga is a combination of laughter exercises and yogic breathing, suitable for all ages and facilitated by a qualified laughter yoga teacher. Everyday clothing is suitable.

LEGO Club for Grown-Ups

Are you a LEGO® fan and a big kid at heart? Northside Library has a meetup with your name on it! Enjoy the fun and creativity that comes from building with bricks! The LEGO® Mindstorm kits and other brick construction devices will be unboxed for adults to unleash their imagination once a month at the Northside Library.

The evening workshop from 5.30pm - 7.30pm at the library is free, but bookings are required.
