Plastic does not compost and it is not something we want in our food chain. The two most common mistakes we see in the FOGO bins are: Old loaves of bread going into the FOGO bin still in the plastic bag. Bagged food waste going into FOGO bin in plastic bags rather than compostable bags. So remember, remove all packaging from your food before putting it in the FOGO bin. When bagging food waste, only use compostable bags, which will have the compostable symbol shown on them. It is important to understand that even if a bag say they are “biodegradable” this just means they are plastic that breaks down into micro plastics. It is still plastic going back into the food chain.
