New Car Parking Charges as at 1 July 2016

On 1 July 2016, there will be a small increase in car parking fees at Rockhampton Airport.  This increase is only the second increase since paid car parking was introduced in 2010.

The first 20 minutes remains free in the short term, long term and premium car parks.

There is also a dedicated 2 minute drop off/pick-up area for passengers in the short term car park.  If passengers are not ready for collection, drivers must park in the parking bays provided within the short term car park.

Any vehicle exiting the car parks on or after Friday 1 July 2016 will incur the new charges.

Airport Emergency Plan (AEP)

Emergency response procedures and communication will be tested on Wednesday 18th May with our biennial 'staged' field exercise.  The exercise will simulate a turboprop passenger aircraft which makes an approach to land on Runway 04/22.  Water birds taking flight from Lion Creek cause the pilot to abort the landing.  Lacking altitude to clear the flock of birds the pilot attempts to bank the climb to the south.  Due to the reactive manoeuvre and the climb towards the rising sun the pilot is not aware of the lighting towers at the RPT Apron until an impact occurs.  The aircraft crashes into the terminal building spreading debris and the aircraft parts into the street and car park.

The exercise provides valuable training to improve the way the agencies communicate and coordinate their specialized activities in the event of an airport emergency.

Residents should not be alarmed with the increase of emergency response vehicles around the Airport precinct.
