Construction of Rockhampton’s new Art Gallery
Construction is well underway for the new Rockhampton Art Gallery, located on Quay Street adjacent to Customs House, as part of the Cultural Precinct Redevelopment.
The new art gallery, officially named the Rockhampton Museum of Art, will be a three-storey structure with around 4700m2 gross floor area.
The architecturally designed structure will feature two large flexible gallery spaces, three multi-purpose education spaces, increased collection storage areas, a restaurant and retail space.
The existing gallery’s relocation to its new CBD location will ensure it remains a cornerstone in the revitalised cityscape and riverfront.
Location: Rockhampton’s Museum of Art is being constructed on 212 and 214 Quay Street and the back section of 220 Quay Street for a delivery dock.
Construction duration: Approximately 2 years
Scheduled completion date: mid 2021.
Funding: The new Rockhampton Art Gallery is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government in association with Rockhampton Regional Council.
