Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness

The Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Resource Package is a component of the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) project, which aims to make sure the needs and voices of people with disability are included in disaster risk management. Disaster risk management has four phases: prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. To decrease risk and increase resilience, the needs of people with disability must be considered in all four phases.

The P-CEP toolkit helps to match emergency planning to the supports people need for their health and safety in emergencies. It is a conversation guide used by those with a disability or chronic illness to tailor emergency preparedness to their individual support needs. Start your emergency preparedness conversation today with the Capability Wheel and P-CEP Workbook.

For help guiding the conversation, a User Guide and Facilitator Guide are also available. You can access this P-CEP toolkit, including helpful and informative videos, here, while the full resource package can be found here.

For additional assistance with your emergency preparedness planning, the Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) is able to facilitate P-CEP discussion through their peer support groups. The Rockhampton peer-support group meets on the last Thursday of every month: to join this group, contact QDN on 1300 363 783 or peersupport@qdn.org.au.

Des Ryan, a P-CEP peer-support champion from Rockhampton, learnt firsthand the complications a disaster can bring, along with the importance of getting to know your neighbours. Discover his story in the video below.
