Wine and Watercolour

Thursday, 08 November 2018 | 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM

Make the most of this Sunday afternoon with Pinot and Pastels. This one-off fun and casual pastels workshop for beginners gives you a Sunday afternoon to look forward to. How better to relax than with a glass of wine and easy-to-use pastels at your fingertips?

All art mediums have very different qualities. Pastel sticks contain pure colour, ready for immediate application directly from the medium onto the surface of the pastel paper. Crisp, clean colours can easily lead to playful, bright contemporary artworks or moody and in-depth descriptive art pieces.

Creating artworks is extremely satisfying and exciting while still having a meditative feeling and quality about the time spent engaging and exploring ways to express ourselves in this way. You can learn about colours interacting with each other, the role of light and shadow on subjects, and about the perspective of colour.

Subject matter will be open and varied – landscape, still life, old buildings, waterways, and nature itself in all its various forms. By the end of the workshop, you will have completed one of your own pastel works and be able to take your new skills home to continue developing in your own style.

Price: $35 per session | $30 Friends [includes materials, qualified arts educator, accompanied by wine]

Where: Rockhampton Art Gallery, Beatrice Hutton Room (entry via Beatrice Hutton Room, directly off Victoria Parade)

Parking: Victoria Parade or Bolsover Car Park behind the Gallery

About the tutor

Gail Meyer had a country upbringing that gave her a great opportunity to see and appreciate much colour, texture and beauty in nature. Always aware of shapes and shades in her surroundings, Gail began painting at an early age and benefited greatly from tuition and studies at TAFE Rockhampton.

As a long-standing member of Central Queensland Contemporary Artists, Gail has been involved in many art exhibitions locally and regionally. Gail has numerous paintings in private collections, and Central Queensland University has made an acquisition for their collection. Gail has also enjoyed and valued facilitating many art-related workshops.

Using pastel, paints, inks or mixed media is for Gail a natural story telling process to share an experience or a feeling with others.
