Showman’s Guild and Council map out plans for 2019 Show

The return of the Showman’s Guild was cemented today with the first onsite meeting at the Showgrounds since Council made the decision to regain control of the Rockhampton Show.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the Guild was impressed with how far Council has already progressed plans to deliver the greatest Show in Regional Queensland.  

“Whilst we’ve certainly had great messages of support from the Showman’s Guild, today was the chance to walk them around the Showgrounds and map out our plans to make this bigger and better than before,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Council and the Guild have already established an incredibly productive relationship which is demonstrated in how quickly we have been able to reach agreements for next year’s Show. And with our five dollar gate fee, all of our Show wishes are coming at once.

“The overwhelming response of positive feedback from the public is also proof of how much our community values the Show and I can’t wait to see the results our Advance Rockhampton team and the Guild will deliver.”

President of the Showman’s Guild, Luke Hennessy, said reducing the entrance fee was critical for the Show’s success.  

“From the discussions that we have had with Council, I am very positive about the 2019 Show. One of the most important things that will help make next year’s show a huge success is the low entrance fee which gives every member of the public an affordable ticket price,” Mr Hennessy said.

“Council will also be bringing back popular agriculture competitions that dwindled away in the past, and from a community and agricultural aspect I am so pleased to see that the next show will offer something for absolutely everyone who comes along.”
