River Festival’s star attractions unveiled in sneak peek preview

Published on 12 July 2018

Rockhampton Regional Council has today given a sneak peek of some of the highly-anticipated attractions at this year’s Adani Rockhampton River Festival.

Mayor Margaret Strelow helped polish Australia’s only double-decker Royal Carousel before touring the massive inflatable installation ‘Arboria’ and said both were sure to delight crowds this weekend.

“There’s something almost magical about these attractions and where they are located in the festival’s footprint right on the bank of the Fitzroy River,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The young Hollywood charm of the carousel hidden back in the trees creates a very nostalgic feeling like something from a silver screen movie and will no doubt be a hit with kids and adults alike.

“Going from that to Arboria is literally like you’re stepping from the past into the future. The massive installation is a testament to post-modern art with the immersive light show that plays out within its inflatable walls set to intrigue everyone who steps inside.”

The theme ‘The light that guides us and the air that we breathe’ will weave itself throughout all facets of the event. Revellers can once again expect to see free acts, roving performers, art activities and one of a kind entertainment with, ‘Le Coup’ - a late night neo-vaudeville cabaret performance which pays homage to 1920’s carnival, faded glamour, and music hall revue. Le Coup will be a world premiere, acted out under the dome of the magnificent Customs House by highly acclaimed performance group Company 2.

“The River Festival has gone from strength to strength in the short time that it has been part of our community life,” Mayor Strelow said.

“I’m particularly delighted with this year’s offering and huge credit must go to Advance Rockhampton’s Regional Promotions team.”
