Funding for arts projects now open

If you’re working on an idea for a new arts project and need funding to help make it happen then the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) may be able to help.

The next round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is now open and applications are being sought for projects that will start after 1 February 2023.

RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Rockhampton Regional Council, supporting professional artists and arts practice in regional areas. It distributes approximately $60,000 of funding in Rockhampton Region each year.

Rockhampton Regional Council Arts and Heritage spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson said that local established and emerging artists can apply to receive financial assistance for their professional development, and local groups can receive assistance to employ professional artists for a specific project.

“I encourage any local individuals and groups to see if RADF can help them,” Cr Wickerson said.

RADF is a grass roots funding program where grants are decided by a local committee who are familiar with local priorities.

“People proposing projects that are run by and benefit young people, Indigenous Australians, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and innovative cross-art forms are particularly encouraged to apply,” Cr Wickerson said.

Council’s website (www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au/radf) has case studies of previously successful RADF applications which current applicants might find helpful.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said as part of this successful, long-term collaboration, the Queensland Government will provide $2.13 million for RADF 2022–2023 to a total of 59 local councils, who will contribute a co-investment amount of over $1.9 million.

“Established in 1991, RADF is a long-standing success story between the Queensland Government and regional councils, enabling local artists and arts workers to tell their rich and unique stories, boosting regional employment opportunities and other positive economic outcomes”, Minister Enoch said.  

“For 31 years RADF has provided a legacy of creating new art and cultural experiences for Queensland audiences and communities, and a platform for professional development and growth across the regional arts sector,” she said.

RADF funding comes under two broad categories – Development Grant and Project Grant

Development grants cover: professional career development, skills development workshops, concept development and creative development of new work. Assistance is available for up to 65 percent of the total costs to a maximum of $5000.

Project Grants cover: exhibitions, performances, festivals and events, public presentations. Assistance is available for up to 80 percent of the total cost to a maximum of $10,000

Quick responses grants are available for any project or activity that requires funding outside the grant rounds with assistance available for up to 65 percent of the total costs to a maximum of $1000.

Applications are now being accepted for projects commencing after 1 February 2023. Applications close 5pm Friday 6 January 2023.
