As the temperature drops, Rockhampton Regional Council has confirmed Gracemere and Mount Morgan pools will be closed for the winter from this Saturday 1 May.

The 42nd Battalion pool in North Rockhampton will close a little later, on Monday 17 May.

Councillor for Parks, Sports and Public Spaces Cherie Rutherford said the 2nd World War Memorial Aquatic Centre would remain open throughout the winter.

“I can’t quite believe it’s that time of year again but here we are!

“Now the temperatures are dropping we will be closing the non-heated pools, as the water is becoming a little too chilly for most to enjoy.

“The South Rocky Pool will remain open throughout, which has both 25m and 50m heated outdoor pools, as well as an indoor learn to swim pool. Entry is just $2.50 a visit so it’s a great option for the whole family.

“The wet play area at South Rocky Pool will close throughout the winter also, and we will be using that time to do some modifications to the wet play surface.

“The other wet play areas, such as in Kershaw Gardens, Cedric Archer Park and Riverside will remain open.

“The pools will all reopen in September, and we will put information out just beforehand as a reminder to the community.”
