Australia Day 2020

Know someone who really makes a difference to the Rocky community? Help that person get the recognition they deserve by nominating them for the 2020 Rockhampton Region Australia Day Awards!

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the Australia Day Awards are a fantastic way to recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to our community.

“We all know someone who absolutely goes above and beyond,” said Mayor Strelow.

“Whether they’ve volunteered countless evenings and weekends at a local sports club or organisation, dedicated their career to improving the lives of those around them, or launched an initiative that helps make our region a better place.

“The Australia Day Awards are our opportunity to highlight the work these generous people do, and show them how much they mean to our community.

“This year, for example, Emeritus Professor Errol Payne received the Citizen of the Year Award. He is one of the people who established what is now CQ University, and was acknowledged for his commitment to education in the community.

“The Young Citizen of the Year Award went to Blake Moore for his contributions to the Rockhampton Touch Football Association, not only as a highly successful competitor, but also an inspirational coach and referee.

“If you know of a person or community group dedicated to making the Rockhampton Region a better place, help us recognise their efforts and nominate them for a Rockhampton Region Australia Day Award.”
