New Waste Transfer Station in Bushley

Construction has begun today on a new Waste Transfer Station (WTS) designed to service residents from Stanwell to Gogango.

Chair of Council’s Waste Committee, Councillor Neil Fisher, said that residents will be looking forward to the new WTS opening. 

“We resolved to build a new Waste Transfer Station to service the Western Districts late last year when the previous roadside bin stations were closed,” said Cr Fisher.

“Since then, we’ve been developing designs and searching for the ideal location, which we finally secured in June.

“We searched all available options between Stanwell and Westwood, and the site that best suited our selection criteria is located on Sandy Creek Road in Bushley.

“Construction of the new WTS has commenced today, and we’re expecting it will be complete and operational by the end of the year.

“Residents will be able to dispose of their separated recyclable materials for free, just like at our other transfer stations around the Rockhampton Region, making it easier than ever for people in this area to recycle.

“The WTS will also accept domestic general waste, as well as offer the drumMUSTER chemical container recycling program.

“This means that residents will be able to drop off eligible agvet chemical containers for free. The collected containers will then be recycled into useful items such as street signs, irrigation piping, plant stakes and outdoor furniture. 

“Currently, the only other WTS to offer this service in the region is at Gracemere.

“We have been working closely with the community to transition away from the old roadside bins since they had to be closed, and we are very excited to deliver this long-term, safe, and reliable waste and recycling solution.

“The current interim waste collection service will continue while construction is underway, and the final service will take place the day after the WTS opens.”
