GREASE is the word for Rockhampton Regional Council’s 2024 musical!

If you have been waiting to hear which musical Rockhampton Regional Council will be producing in 2024, then GREASE is the word!

The hit musical will be performed at the Pilbeam Theatre in March 2024 and features great songs such as Greased Lightning, Summer Nights, We go Together, You’re the One That I Want and more.

GREASE the musical premiered on Broadway in 1972 and played for 3388 performances becoming the longest running musical at the time. It was made into a movie starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in 1978, breaking box office records in the USA, UK and Australia.

To start the process, Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking expressions of interest for members of the creative team: Director, Musical Director, Vocal Director, Choreographer, Costume Coordinator and Repetiteur.

Once those roles have been filled, auditions for performers will be held in November.

Rockhampton Regional Council Communities and Heritage spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson said that he always looked forward to the annual Council-produced musical.

“GREASE is a great musical for everyone, whether you remember singing along with the movie back in the late 1970s or if you are a more recent convert,” he said.

“Council is very pleased to be able to provide this opportunity not only for local performers to be part of a large scale locally produced musical, but also to give theatregoers the chance to enjoy the talent that we have in the region,” he said.
