Rockhampton Regional Council has today advised residents that the Microchipping & Vaccination event due to be held this Sunday 2 December 2018 in Gracemere has unfortunately been cancelled due to the current heat and bushfire conditions.

Planning and Regulatory Committee Chair Cr Ellen Smith said Council’s Local Laws team had made the decision following this week’s extreme conditions.

“This is the third event in a series of four and it’s really unfortunate that it has to be cancelled but at the end of the day it’s what’s safest for both the animals and their owners,” Cr Smith said.

“With fires still burning around the region and the heatwave still affecting Central Queensland, we don’t want to put a large group of animals together in a situation where there’s the potential for them to get excited and overheat.

“We have notified the volunteer animal rescue groups, our partner vets and Paws for A Purpose, and we have already made contact with those who pre-registered who I have to thank for being so understanding of the exceptional circumstances.

“There is another event scheduled for January so we’d urge anyone who was planning to come this Sunday to come along to the next one because this is a great program delivering great results,” Cr Smith said.

The next clinic will be held on 6 January 2019. There is more information here.
