Rockhampton Regional Council will be kicking off road works next week along Main Street, from Twigg Street to Denning Street.

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said works include the replacement of some of the kerb and channel, minor pavement repairs and an asphalt overlay.

“This is a high-traffic area, especially during school drop off and pick up times, and it’s important Council undertakes these works," Cr Smith said.

“During the project, two-way traffic will remain on Main Street however, there will be very limited to no parking on Main Street.

“At various times during construction, Twigg Street, Davidson Street, Stumm Street and Denning Street will not be able to exit onto Main Street.

“Signage and detours will be in place when closures are in effect.

"We ask the public to follow these detours and to not park vehicles on the road whilst the works are being undertaken.

“Please be mindful of the crews undertaking the works and take care whilst in the area."

Divisional Councillor Donna Kirkland said the area is commonly used and sees residential, school and business traffic.

“It is great to see this high-use area receiving an update," Cr Kirkland said.

“During the works, there will be some impacts to parking, however, our crews will endeavour to keep both lanes open while the upgrades are undertaken.

“I know that local users of this area will be pleased to see these upgrades going ahead.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we undertake the roadworks."

Works will commence on 28 November 2022 and are estimated to take 12 working weeks to complete, subject to weather and ground conditions.
