Disaster Ready Survey

Rockhampton Regional Council has kicked off two major projects to improve resilience in our Region, and is asking for you to submit your thoughts in a recently launched community survey.

The Queensland Emergency Risk Management process and Bushfire Management Study are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Peter Kofod, Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Coordinator, said these two projects are designed to mitigate the impact of hazards and emergencies on our community.

“Our goal with these projects is to understand how prepared our community currently is for an emergency, and identify what resources and information our residents need to be even more equipped,” said Mr Kofod.

“The first project considers all hazards, and the second focuses specifically on bushfire risk.

“People in Central Queensland know that disasters happen, and most households in our Region will have already faced a few.

“We also know the value of having a plan in place before an emergency occurs. Being properly prepared means we can face a disaster with the confidence that our homes are as protected as possible, and that the decisions we’re making have been well thought out beforehand.

“Of course, because our community knows these things, many of you will already have plans in place, but have a few questions remaining. For others, the thought might be sitting at the back of your mind: something you know you need to plan for, but that always seems like it can wait till tomorrow.

“Through this survey we’re aiming to understand where your household is at, and what you need to be as resilient as possible. We’ll then apply that information to ensure you’re getting the information and resources you have asked for.”
