SmartHub Digital Capability Program - Insta-FB.jpg

Applications for an exciting opportunity for local businesses opened this week, as Rockhampton Regional Council’s SmartHub launched its $50,000 Digital Business Capability Program.

The program, which has 20 places available, will support businesses that service the agricultural and rural industries to create or improve their online presence.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said successful applicants would get access to expert support from a technology business based at Council’s SmartHub.

“The SmartHub, our hi-tech co-working facility located in the heritage listed Customs House, is a great asset to our community,” said Mayor Strelow.

“They’ve been working with existing local businesses, and supporting the creation of new ones, since 2016.

“Now they’re stepping up yet again to help businesses that serve the agricultural and rural sector to increase their digital capabilities and help them become more resilient in the new COVID-19 world.

“Successful applicants to the Digital Business Capability Program will be connected with a technology based business operating out of the SmartHub, who will work alongside them to determine how to best engage with their target markets online.

“This could be through website design and development, setting up e-commerce, social media, and other types of digital marketing and promotion.

“Each successful applicant will also be allocated a $2,500 grant to implement these changes. That won’t cover all the costs though, so businesses will be expected to invest some of their own money – and time - too.

“So if you operate a business the Rockhampton Regional Council area that services the agricultural and rural sector, want support to digitally diversify, and are ready to put in the effort required, get your application in by Sunday 12 July.”

Businesses who wish to apply must meet the following criteria:

• Have an active ABN

• Have a business located within the Rockhampton Regional Council LGA

• Have access to either phone or video technology for conference calls

• Be willing to co-contribute to the overall costs of digital diversification
