Council’s Native Plant Program is back again! From Tuesday to Thursday this week stop by any of our customer service centres to pick up free plants for your backyard.

Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland said the plant giveaway program is a highlight every year.

“The plants that we’re giving away are adapted to thrive in our local conditions,” Cr Kirkland said.

“They provide food and shelter to our local wildlife, preserve biodiversity, and create a more appealing environment for everyone.

“By Thursday afternoon we’ll have given away around 15,000 plants since this program began in 2019.

“These have all been chosen for our local environment with most grown right here in Council’s nursery.

“It makes me very proud to know that these plants have now taken root in yards across our region, and are enhancing the environment for humans and fauna alike.

“This year there are four plants available – the whisker plant, scarlet fuchsia, red-flowered silky oak and tuckeroo.

“All Rockhampton Region residents are invited to pop in to one of our customer service centres over the next few days to pick up some free plants for their own backyard, and help to green our region.”

Plants will be available from Tuesday 26 July to Thursday 28 July.
