Early flight provided business boost to Central Queensland economy

Rockhampton Regional Council is supporting Central Queensland’s business community by attracting a key early morning direct flight to Brisbane.

Airport Councillor Neil Fisher said the 7am Virgin flight, which started last week, meant business people could fly to Brisbane first thing, do a full day and then be back home in Rockhampton in time for dinner.

“Having this 737 overnight in Rockhampton is a huge win for travellers but especially those doing business in the South-East corner of the State. It offers yet another reason why living in regional Queensland is becoming more attractive,” Cr Fisher said.

“By being able to get to Brisbane and do a full day of business before flying home, it will cut down the cost of accommodation while giving business people more flexibility to fly in and out of Rockhampton.”

“With the plane parking here overnight it also means more staff in Rockhampton to maintain the aircraft which has flow on benefits for our local economy.”

“I’d like to thank Virgin for partnering with Council to deliver this flight because it is something we know the business community has been asking for.”
