Rockhampton Regional Council is reminding pet owners that annual dog registrations are due 31 August.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said that pet registrations are designed to add safety and security to pets, pet owners and the community.

“If you’re a current resident with a dog or have just moved to our region, then you need to ensure that your pet is registered each year with Council,” Cr Mathers said.

“No one ever wants their pet to go missing, but if that ever happens, registrations really do assist our officers in reuniting a lost pet with its owner.

“For this reason, it’s also vital to keep your listed contact details with registrations up to date. It’s important to remember, your pet is your responsibility.

“Unfortunately, this year we have had to make the difficult decision to reintroduce a dog registration fee for pension card holders.

“We have held off doing this for as long as possible, and while it has been free for the past three financial years, the new fee of $5 is less than the previous $8.50.

“Residents renewing their desexed and/or microchipped dogs may be eligible to claim a discount if paid by 31 August.”

Payments can be made in person at Council’s Customer Service Centres, via BPAY, or by giving Customer Service a call.

If your animal has a current Council registration and you have not received a renewal notice, please call Customer Service on 4932 9000.
