Dispose of green waste for free at Waste Transfer Stations

Lawns are looking lush thanks to a few weeks of welcome rain, and many residents are getting out in their yards to mow and trim back growth.

Rockhampton Regional Council Waste and Recycling Manager, Michael O’Keeffe, said this is a good time to remind everybody that green waste can be disposed of for free at Waste Transfer Stations across the Region, including at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility.

“We all know that garden waste can’t go in the yellow-lidded recycling bin, but bagging grass clippings and putting it in the red bin to send to landfill can really feel like a waste,” said Mr O’Keeffe.

“Instead, bring your clippings and other garden waste along to any Waste Transfer Station in our Region. Not only will you free up room in your red bin, you’ll also be able pick up free mulch for your garden while you’re there.

“Another great alternative is to set up a home composting system, and pop your garden waste straight in along with other organic waste.”
