Rockhampton Regional Council is asking candidates in the upcoming state election to commit to a measure which could bring hundreds of jobs and large scale industrial investment to our Region.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said the decision to establish a State Development Area (SDA) in Stanwell would be a natural fit.

“We are a proud hub for the mining, agricultural, construction, and manufacturing industries that contribute to Queensland’s vibrant economy,” said Mayor Strelow.

“Establishing a State Development Area in Stanwell would put our Region on the map for developers looking to invest in large scale industrial development.

“I want to make it clear, this is not a metaphorical map. This is an actual map showing a handful of clearly defined areas of land which have been established for the purpose of promoting economic development. A map which major national and international developers consult to choose a location for industrial investments.

“An established SDA means that there is less red tape for developments to get off the ground. It is also a signal that our Region is supportive of industry, and that the state is committed to promoting industrial development here.

“The State Government already owns land that is perfectly suited for this purpose through the Stanwell Corporation, and our Region’s large and highly skilled workforce makes it an ideal choice for developers.

“We’re asking that each candidate commit to the establishment of a establishing an SDA here.

“This is a clear win that would benefit not just unlock potential in our community, it would benefit Queensland as a whole.”
