Council is spreading the word to protect biosecurity in the Region

Rockhampton Regional Council is urging livestock owners to make sure their compulsory biosecurity entity registration is up to date.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said this is to protect Queensland’s animal industries and market access for primary producers.

“Biosecurity registration keeps animal owners informed and allows the Department of Agriculture (DAF) and Fisheries to quickly locate animals in an emergency animal disease or pest incident,” Cr Mathers said.

“This means a faster response and gets our industries and our producers back to business as soon as possible following an event.

“More than 50,000 Queensland livestock owners have taken the guesswork out of animal registration by signing up to the biosecurity entity registration portal.

“Online registration is easy and you will be sent reminders every three years to ensure your registration is up-to-date.

“Best of all, registration ensures you will be notified of any biosecurity emergencies that may threaten the health of your animals.

“If you own, or are even thinking about keeping livestock in Queensland, whether it is cattle, horses, birds or bees to name a few, you need to make sure you are registered as a biosecurity entity.

“Council also has a local law in place that sets out the regulations for the keeping of animals in terms of how many, what type, how and where animals can be kept – so be sure to check that out as well.”
