Council completing $4 million Pavement Reseal Program

Rockhampton Regional Council is currently completing a $4 million investment in our region’s roads through the annual Pavement Reseal Program.

Chair of Council’s Infrastructure Committee Councillor Tony Williams said the program has seen proactive road maintenance works across the region, including in Gracemere, Alton Downs, Frenchville, Koongal, The Range, and Depot Hill.

“All in all, more than 25 kilometres of work over 64 roads are being improved through this program,” said Cr Williams. 

“This includes roads in regional areas as well as high-traffic urban roads.”

The program includes asphalt reseals, stone spray seals, and slurry seals. Asphalt reseals and stone spray seals have been completed, slurry seals will begin in May and are expected to be complete in June.

“These works rejuvenate, protect, and prolong the existing road infrastructure,” said Cr Williams.

“Cost effective and proactive road maintenance, like the work completed through this program, is a constant priority for Council.

“Not only does this program provide smooth, quality roads for drivers but - by extending the life-expectancy of our roads – it also means that costly and inconvenient full road reconstructions are fewer and further between.

The roads which receive maintenance work through the annual Pavement Reseal Program are chosen in a two-part selection phase which incorporates Council’s Asset Management Systems and historical inspection data as well as visual inspection and cost considerations. 

“Every dollar we invest in proactive road maintenance is a dollar invested in making the Rockhampton Region better for our residents for years to come,” said Cr Williams.
