Rockhampton Regional Council and CQUniversity have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will see the Bond Store soon house a state-of-the-art community space designed by the University to nurture digital creativity, disruption and innovation.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said today’s MOU signing demonstrates how two major organisations can join to create a difference for the entire Region.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have found a new purpose for the Bond Store, and to partner with CQUniversity to make the next step forward in activating our CBD and bringing our Cultural Precinct vision to life through the students who will use the space,” Mayor Strelow said.

“This really is a win-win situation for both Council and the University. The use of the Bond Store as a creative and innovative space complements our existing Smart Hub and our proposed Art Gallery next door, while also assisting the University with its expansion plans.

“Council has worked closely with the CQUniversity over the past few years, with a particular focus on how we can come together to really activate our CBD. This is just one of the many outcomes we are excited to see come to fruition as a result of our long term CBD Redevelopment Strategy,” Mayor Strelow said.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said the Bond Store will accommodate students with largescale interactive displays, virtual reality spaces and experimental technology areas for digital collaboration.

“CQUniversity will utilise the Bond Store facility to create a central hub to nurture and encourage digital disruption, creativity and social innovation. To do this, we will create technology-driven collaboration spaces that can be used by the entire community.

“CQUniversity looks forward to sharing this type of cutting-edge technology with the broader community and helping to establish Rockhampton as a hub for digital creativity and disruption.”
