Unfortunately due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation, The CapriCon Steampunk and Pop Culture Convention set to take place this month on Saturday 28 August has been cancelled.

Mayor Tony Williams said Council has made the difficult decision this week to cancel the CapriCon event for 2021.

“In light of the extended NSW and South East Queensland lockdowns and current QLD border closure, we cannot deliver the 2021 CapriCon program, with key Steampunk and Pop Culture entertainment and stall holders coming from outside the region.  This is very disappointing for all involved especially the community who have supported this growing major event on our calendar,” Mayor Williams said.

“Council cannot in good faith continue to plan and deliver our 5th anniversary event to the standard our attendees expect without these key guests and exhibitors.

“To reduce the impact on all guests, sponsors, attendees and exhibitors we have needed to make the tough decision to cancel four weeks out.”

Advance Rockhampton’s Manager of Tourism and Events Annette Pearce said the CapriCon Events Team is currently working on other opportunities for our dedicated pop culture community.

“CapriCon has grown to become a huge part of our community so we understand how much this cancellation affects our local cosplayers and exhibitors who have been preparing for the event,” Ms Pearce said.

“We are currently exploring other event opportunities for our CapriCon stakeholders and hope they understand we are doing everything we can to support pop culture in our community.”
