AMC officers still working hard

The front doors of the Animal Management Centre (AMC) have been closed for a while now, however officers are still working very hard to care for animals and return lost pets.

Planning and Regulation Portfolio Spokesperson Councillor Ellen Smith said it is great to hear how helpful our community has been.

“Given the current measures, we have obviously had to make some pretty significant changes to the way we normally operate,” said Cr Smith.

 “We have had to restrict the surrender of animals, and the Centre itself is closed to the public, which means officers are having to make different arrangements to pick up any found animals or to re-unite pets with their owners.  

“It has been wonderful to see how our officers have taken these arrangements in their stride, and also how understanding and patient our community has been.

“Thanks to our local animal rescue organisations we have also continued to see animals rehomed with great families, which is a fantastic outcome.

“We do really want to reiterate to pet owners that it is more important now than ever to ensure your dog is registered and microchipped, and to say thank you for being a responsible pet owner.”
