Works starts on Cedric Archer Park

Work commenced last week at Cedric Archer Park, Gracemere, with contractors preparing the site for its new playground equipment.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the much-loved Park was getting its highly-anticipated upgrade.

“The Gracemere community loves Cedric Archer Park and it’s enjoyed by local residents and sporting teams alike, so this upgrade is very important and one that Council is absolutely committed to,” Cr Rutherford said.

“This first stage includes playground components such as forts and swings, soft fall and a shade covering , which ensures the kids can still play when it’s hot or if there’s a light shower, but essentially great for the whole family to enjoy.

“At this stage, it’s anticipated we’ll have the fort in place by mid-July, with the other components completed by the end of June.”

Cedric Archer Park received $502,668 in the 2014/15 budget to commence the staged development over the next three years. A further $700,000 is allocated in the 2015/16 year and $1,150,000 for the final stage in the 2016/17 financial year.

Division Four Councillor Ellen Smith said she was looking forward to the playground and working with the local community.

“It will be very exciting for the Gracemere community and visitors once the playground is in place. We’ve worked directly with the community and we’ll continue to work with them for their thoughts on the Skate Park too,” Cr Smith said.

Stage One has a budget of $375,000, with the remaining funds allocated towards power reticulation to the site and design works on the skate park. The design and rectification of Touch of Paradise will commence in the 2015-16 year and be completed in 2016-17 financial year.

Cedric Archer Park remains open to the public while works are being carried out.

Stage One playground components include:

* New smart play fort

* A large play fort

* A rope tower

* A number of spinning components

* Swing and see saw

* Soft fall
