Free Airport parking for travelling patients

Rockhampton Regional Council has formalised a new initiative to help patients and their carers cut back on travel expenses when flying to see specialists outside of the Region.

Thanks to the Airport’s Car Park Waiver program, parking fees will be spared for people travelling under Queensland Health’s Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS).

The program was supported in yesterday’s Business Enterprise Committee meeting after the Umbrella Network and Department of Communities approached Council to waive the fees for patients.

Council’s Committee Chair of Business Enterprise Councillor Neil Fisher said the initiative was a way to provide ease of mind and a better service for patients.

“We understand the cost of travelling to and from Rockhampton to see specialists can quickly add up, so the Airport is very pleased to have this waiver program in place for those who are eligible,” Councillor Fisher said.

“As of now, patients will no longer need to worry about catching alternate transport, they can hop straight on the plane knowing their car is secure at the Airport and forget about the usual parking expenses.”

To be eligible patients or their carers must provide their PTSS Specialist Certification Form signed by a specialist, parking ticket and licence plate number to the Rockhampton Airport Management Office located inside the Airport terminal.

Parking tickets will then be validated for the duration of their trip.
