Council joins in Weedbuster Week

Published on 04 September 2015

Weeds are one of Australia’s most serious and expensive land degradation problems.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Health and Compliance Committee Chair Councillor Ellen Smith said Council was creating awareness of these silent saboteurs by participating in Weedbuster Week 2015 with a display at Stockland Rockhampton from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 September.

“Weedbusters is a national program that seeks to raise awareness about the damaging effects of weeds. It engages the community through education and awareness activities, and on-ground weed management,” Cr Smith said.

“Whether you live in town or in a rural area, we all have a role to play in choosing garden plants, disposing of our garden clippings and recognising problem plants when we see them.”

To check out your problem weeds and for more information visit Council’s Pest Management Display and team at Stockland Rockhampton (opposite Just Jeans) from 9am to 4pm on Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 September.

The display will include:

  • Weed management information and advice
  • ‘We Bust Weeds’ kids colouring-in competition with entrants going in the draw to win a gardening prize pack
  • ‘Pick the Pest Plant’ quiz with entrants going in the draw to win a prize pack from Savage, Barker and Backhouse valued at over $200
  • Grow Me Instead resources
  • Pest animal information and advice.
