Stage one of Gracemere’s popular Cedric Archer Park is now complete with a range of exciting play equipment for families, children and visitors to enjoy.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the park upgrade was essential for the growing needs of the Gracemere area.

“Council is certainly catering for the growing Gracemere community with an investment of $410,000 for stage one, but most importantly we’re ensuring residents and visitors have access to a range of recreational facilities from play equipment to sporting grounds,” Cr Rutherford said.

“In 2014, we allocated $2.35 million over three years for the Cedric Archer Park upgrade and we have $700,000 in this year’s budget to continue works.

“Once all stages have been completed, Cedric Archer Park will be the area’s top park and recreation destination with exciting facilities for families and for the broader community to use every week.”

Councillor Ellen Smith said residents were excited stage one of their much-loved park was now complete.

“We’ve had some excellent feedback with many residents taking a keen interest in its progress to date, so it’s very exciting for families to get back outdoors, particularly as we move into the warmer months,” Cr Smith said.

“The innovative forts, swings and spinning components are sure to keep the kids entertained for hours, and the soft fall and a shade covering will ensure kids can play all year round.

“Now the playground is in place we can continue to work again with the community for their thoughts and input on the Skate Park.”

The next stage, due to begin in September, includes power reticulation to the site and design works on the skate park. The design and rectification of Touch of Paradise will commence in November 2015 with completion anticipated in 2016-17 financial year.
