Rockhampton Regional Playground Strategy

The Regional Playgrounds Strategy seeks to develop a program that ensures that all playgrounds across the region meet the needs of the community that they serve.

Quality play spaces facilitate learning and development in our youth and provide opportunities for children to participate in active recreation in safe yet challenging environments in order to stimulate both physical and psychological development. Accessible play spaces are also very important in the social development of our youth.

The Rockhampton Regional Playgrounds Strategy seeks to provide a suite of playgrounds infrastructure that addresses the needs of a broad range of children and youth from 3 to 17 years of age, providing diverse play experiences over a range of values (educational, social, family and imaginative).

The strategy seeks to provide equity of access to facilities across the region and to this end has divided the region into five planning sectors:

  1. Gracemere / Mount Morgan - covering the towns of Gracemere and Mount Morgan and the surrounding villages.
  2. Rockhampton South - the urban area of Rockhampton on the southside of the river.
  3. Rockhampton East - the urban area of North Rockhampton east of Moore's Creek, primarily Koongal, Berserker, Frenchville, Lakes Creek and Nerimbera.
  4. Rockhampton North - the Rockhampton Urban Area North of Moore's Creek, primarily Park Avenue, Kawana, Norman gardens and the northern growth corridor.
  5. Capricorn Coast - The coastal strip from Pacifica Heights south to Zilzie.
