Reading, listening and telling stories for young children stimulates learning, literacy and cognitive development.

Many parents and grandparents greatly enjoy introducing their young children to the wonderful books and resources available from their local library.

Storytelling, or Lively Stories are conducted on alternate weeks at Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Mount Morgan Libraries. Lively Stories may include told and read stories, fingerplays, nursery rhymes, chants, songs and puppets. A simple craft activity concludes the session.

Storytelling encourages learning for littlies in a relaxed, supportive library environment. Your child will enjoy interacting with their peers.

Council's Libraries throughout the region offer a number of free storytelling sessions for preschool children and their parents/carers throughout the year.

The Lively Stories program provides a free activity which is enriching, educational, and fun for the whole family.

Extend the reading experience by checking out books to share with your child at home. Allow your child to select books before or after story time.
