Community centres are grounded on the principles of enhancing access, equity, equality; fostering participation, inclusion and choice; building community capacity; facilitating partnerships and networks.

The Community Development Centre provides Capricorn Coast residents with a community hub that is safe, welcoming, vibrant, accessible and offers:

  • Information and referral assistance
  • Outreach Services
  • Enhanced choices
  • Networking and social events
  • Participation in programs
  • Affordable meeting spaces on a permanent or casual basis
  • Life long learning opportunities

We also provide important linkages, capacity building and partnership opportunities for:

  • Individuals requiring support
  • Community Services Providers
  • Community Groups
  • Community development staff and council

A range of service providers, both government and non-government, along with a wide variety of community groups and organizations, operate from our Centre to provide a range of human services to the community.

Information and referral assistance 

Are you in need of support?
A wide range of human services support information and referral connections are available regarding accommodation; emergency relief; counseling; multicultural; women’s and men’s issues.

A variety of information is available to help you settle in

Are you a new arrival or resident from another country?
Our Multicultural Community Relations Officer visits our Centre weekly to offer you a “one stop shop’ for a broad range of services and programs.

Community Development Programs

Tax Help

A volunteer offers free, confidential help to assist low-income earners with their tax responsibilities from July to October each year.  Phone Community Development Centre between June and October for an appointment. 

Public Information Sessions

Free Public information sessions are held regularly on a range of general interest subjects during the day and at night.  Refer to most recent Community Development Centre Newsletter for details. 

Community Workshops

Short workshops are held throughout the year on a range of subjects.  Refer to most recent Community Development Centre Newsletter for details. 

Conversation Group

Is English your second language?

This group offers literacy assistance and gives migrants the opportunity to understand and share Australian culture and enjoy recreational activities and social connections.

Does your group require support?
We can provide support to groups through linkages to other resources, networks and funding opportunities.  We can also provide assistance with group planning an development activities.

Want to start a new group?
New groups are welcome.  We can provide assistance to new groups requiring an affordable space to meet and inclusion in centre user group promotions.

Community Facilities 

Rooms at the Community Development Centre are available for hire to individuals; community groups; associations, not for profit events; government agencies; businesses; visiting outreach services (not for profit).  Rockhampton Regional Council Fees and charges apply.

A community noticeboard to advertise community events is also available.

Community computer is available for use (no Internet available) – bookings are required.

Volunteering

Short term volunteering opportunities in administration are available.
