Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Development Unit (CDU) is based within the Communities Department’s Community and Cultural Development Section and is made up of a diverse range of community development and support related services and programs. These include:
- CDU Management and Administration Support
- Aged Services - Schotia Place and Bauhinia House (Rockhampton)
- Community Development Centre (Yeppoon)
- Community Planning and Engagement Program which includes community development support, social planning, access and equity programs, Multicultural and Indigenous initiatives across the Region
- CQ Home Assist / Secure Program (Rockhampton, Gladstone, Banana & Central Highlands Regions)
- Strengthening Family Connections Service (Capricorn Coast)
- Youth Services including Regional Youth Development and VerbYL Youth Space in Yeppoon.
The Unit is also responsible for the operations of the Gracemere Community Centre in Barry Street, Gracemere and facilitates the Functional Disaster Recovery Committee and associated activities under Council’s Local Disaster Management Group.
Guiding Policies, Practices and Philosophies
The Community Development Unit is guided by Council’s Vision, Mission, and Values, and the Corporate Plan. In addition to these key corporate gaols and priorities, the Unit operates in accordance to Council’s adopted Community Development philosophy, which sets out some underlying principles and practice requirements in relation to how community development is undertaken. A number of services also receive funding from the State Government with various service agreement targets to achieve and standards and accreditation requirements that need to be adhered to.

Office Location
Programs and activities are provided at a number of locations and sites throughout the Region. The main office base for the Unit however is the Community Development Office on the Ground Floor of the School of Arts Building in Bolsover Street Rockhampton.
