To celebrate the National Year of Reading for 2012, an exciting competition ‘The Amazing READing Race’ has been launched in partnership with The Morning Bulletin.
This competition aims to encourage more people in the local community to visit Rockhampton Regional Libraries to discover just how much fun reading can be.
Chair of the Community Development and Customer Service Committee, Councillor Rose Swadling said the National Year of Reading 2012 is about children learning to read, and for providing new sources of inspiration for keen readers.
“It's about supporting reading initiatives while respecting the oral tradition of storytelling. It's about helping people discover and rediscover the magic of books. And most of all, it's about Australians becoming a nation of readers,” Cr Swadling said.
“It’s easy for all ages to get involved and win great prizes! Readers will need to drop into one of Council’s libraries and answer a question by viewing a weekly display. When the answer is submitted, participants will go into the draw to win prizes.
“You might even discover the library and its resources through different eyes.”
The Amazing READing Race competition will run from Monday 23 January, with winners announced on February 14 at a special evening event at the Rockhampton Regional Library.
Entry forms for the competition can be found in The Morning Bulletin each Monday until February 13, as well as Wednesday’s Rockhampton Mirror and Capricorn Coast Mirror.
The Amazing READing Race entry forms can be dropped into the Morning Bulletin office on Quay Street, or Rockhampton Regional Libraries. Please be sure to tick your age category on your entry form.
The Amazing READing Race is just one of the many events planned for the year at Council’s Libraries.
