Water - Broken or Leaking Water Mains

A broken or leaking water main, stopcock, water meter, hydrant or valve should be reported to Councils Customer Service Centre on 1300 22 55 77 (24 hours).

Fitzroy River Water is responsible for the repair/replacement of infrastructure and associated fittings from the stopcock (usually located on the footpath).

The owner is responsible from the property boundary or stopcock to the house and should obtain the services of a licensed plumber to repair their internal service.

Stormwater Drainage Concerns

Council urges homeowners to check that their downpipes and groundwater are not directed to the sewage system.

Downpipes and ground water that is directed into the sewerage system in an attempt to prevent localised flooding can cause sewage surcharges on properties and in our local waterways which can result in serious health issues.

Consequences of incorrect drainage can be unpleasant, so if residents are unsure they should contact a licensed plumber to check that their stormwater connection.

It only takes half a dozen houses on the one sewer system to cause a problem.

Stormwater directed to the sewerage system is illegal, and Council continues to undertake random spot checks and properties found in violation can incur a fine.
