Top tips to reduce your waste disposal costs
Everybody can reduce the amount of waste they create and send to landfill. Make use of our free drop off areas! By using the drop off areas you can save money on disposal fees. Here are some top tips to reduce your disposal costs. All items below can be dropped off at the Waste Management Facility located at Lakes Creek Road. Drop off options vary between Waste Facilities so if you are unsure, ask a friendly staff member or check what is available at each Facility on the Waste Facility pages.
Free disposal is only available to residents of the Rockhampton Region. Disposal by customers from outside the Region will not be accepted.
Tip 1 – Use FREE Recycling drop off!
Can your items be recycled? If items are accepted in yellow lid recycling bins you can also drop them off for free.
- Paper and cardboard
- Glass bottles and jars
- Aluminium and steel cans
- Milk and juice cartons
- Plastic containers (with recycling symbol numbers 1 – 7)
Drop off desk top and laptop computers, monitors, mice and keyboards, cables, drives, printers, scanners and televisions for free at Lakes Creek Road and Gracemere Waste Management Facilities. These items are recycled through TechCollect.
Tip 2 – Use the FREE drop off for pre-loved household items
Pre-loved household items including clothing, furniture and bric-a-brac can be dropped off for free. If it is in reusable condition, make sure it gets a second chance. Acceptance is at the discretion of Trendy Trash staff.
Tip 3 – Use the FREE scrap metal area
Light metals including fridges, air conditioners, fence panels, roller doors or metal off cuts; drop it all to the metal pile for free!
Tip 4 – Clean greenwaste loads are FREE
Clean loads of greenwaste including trimmings, pruning’s and lawn clippings are free! Greenwaste loads are accepted free at the Alton Downs, Bouldercombe, Gracemere, Lakes Creek Road and Mount Morgan Waste Management Facilities.
Council conducts inspections of all incoming greenwaste loads. Customers identified as attempting to dispose general waste with a greenwaste load may be charged at a general waste rate for the entire load with possible exclusion from the facility for an extended period.
