Kershaw Gardens Redevelopment
Kershaw Gardens has been described as Rockhampton’s big backyard; a place for all people to enjoy. Since its official opening in 1988, it has grown as the community has grown. Kershaw Gardens sustained significant damage as a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia in February 2015. In May 2016, after months of clean up, community consultation and planning, Council resolved to completely redevelop the central activities and amenities area to deliver a modern, vibrant recreation opportunity for the people of the Region.
The current Kershaw Gardens redevelopment project is focused on works within the Central area of the Gardens. To date, the Gardens has undergone rectification works to the Northern and Central Sections. The Southern area, which was the worst affected, will remain closed for the time being and is expected to be progressively returned to community use.
