Environmental sustainability is a priority to both Rockhampton Regional Council and the Rockhampton Region.
Council is taking the lead and making proactive changes for the needs of our community through a number of different avenues.
To help ensure the sustainability of our Region, Council has partnered with a number of key stakeholders.
How can I help?
You can help make a difference to the environment within our Region by volunteering.
At different times of the year Council and different organisations call for volunteers to help out at national days and events, which help make our Region sustainable.
These events are also listed on Council’s Event page.
Council aims to reduce the negative effects of human activities on the environment.
Council administers the Environmental Protection Act which makes everyone including industry, State agencies, and local governments accountable for their actions, and encourages good environmental practice.

Think Smart, Plant Smart
Plant Smart is a vegetation management program developed by Ergon Energy and Greening Australia to educate the community on planting appropriate trees under and around powerlines.
Make sure you:
- Consider all elements before you plant
- Think about what you need to do to make sure a plant thrives
- Know what is most appropriate to plant.
If you notice trees or other vegetation encroaching on powerlines or power poles, contact Ergon Energy on 13 10 46 (7.00am - 6.30pm, Monday - Friday).
