Rockhampton Regional Council’s commitment to delivering the services Rockhampton residents need and deserve has been highlighted today with Council giving back more than $100,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in waived airport landing fees.

Mayor Margaret Strelow and Airport Committee Chair Councillor Neil Fisher today joined RFDS staff for the cheque handover and Mayor Strelow said Council was proud to support the incredible work of the RFDS.

“The Royal Flying Doctor Service saves lives across Queensland and our community greatly appreciates and values the dedication they show each and every day,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Council has donated more than $800,000 to the RFDS over the past 21 years and that has helped keep them up in the air and I know there are many in the community who are extremely grateful for that.

“The RFDS has helped thousands of people and knowing that they are there when they’re needed is a great comfort to the Rockhampton community,” Mayor Strelow said.

Councillor Fisher said the partnership between Rockhampton Airport and the Royal Flying Doctor Service was highly valued by council.

“This financial year, we’ve waived $103,064 for the RFDS because we know that money is better spent keeping their planes in the air and helping those in urgent medical need,” Cr Fisher said.

“It’s just one of the ways we give back to the community through our airport and we look forward to continue working with the RFDS into the future to help look after our residents.”

Rockhampton Regional Council also supports the RFDS with staff given the option to donate to the organisation through a payroll deduction.
