Council appoints new Airport Manager

Rockhampton Regional Council is pleased to announce former Whitsunday CEO Scott Waters has been appointed as the new Airport Manager of Rockhampton.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Mr Waters brings immense experience to the role having previously driven the Whitsunday Coast Airport as General Manager.

“Scott’s appointment is a perfect match between our aspirations and his skills,” Mayor Strelow said.

“I’ve had my eyes on Scott and watched his work from a distance for four years and I was delighted when his application was received for the position.

“He has proven his worth to the Whitsundays with a competent and entrepreneurial attitude to new opportunities in the aviation industry and we are excited to place this critical Council asset in his hands.”

Mr Waters said his upcoming appointment as Airport Manager is a positive next step for his career, from a professional and family perspective.

“By way of infrastructure and opportunity, Rockhampton Airport really is one of the best local government airports in this country, and I’m really looking forward to starting” Mr Waters said.

“While the Whitsundays is a magnificent destination and globally renowned, the Rockhampton Region is also renowned for its education, health services, liveability and lifestyle and is a great place for our family to settle and grow up.”

Council’s Committee Chair of Airport, Councillor Fisher, said Mr Waters’ appointment comes at a critical time as Rockhampton explores new opportunities for growth.

“Scott enters Rockhampton Airport at a critical time as Rockhampton looks to the world as a staging point for future business opportunities and his skills and experience will complement our professional team,” Cr Fisher said.

It will be a seamless transition between Airport Managers with Mr Waters coming on board in June and Council’s current Airport Manager, Trevor Heard, retiring in July.  

“The Airport has had a safe pair of hands with Trevor Heard who is very well respected in the airport industry,” Mr Waters said.

“I will be looking forward to working with the Mayor and Councillors in growing the facility and continuing what Trevor started.”
