Community groups in Mount Morgan, Gracemere and Rockhampton will celebrate Australia Day thanks to support from Rockhampton Regional Council’s Australia Day Community Events Program.

The program’s aim is to provide financial assistance to help local groups celebrate Australia Day in the way that best fits their own communities.

  • The Rotary Club of Mount Morgan will celebrate Australia Day at the Big Dam in Mount Morgan from 9am. There will be rides, face painting, ice cream, lamingtons, a sausage sizzle and more.
  • The Gracemere Lions will hold a family fun event with rides and games for the kids, competitions, live entertainment and refreshments. Cedric Archer Park, 2pm to 8pm.
  • The Friends of the Rockhampton Heritage Village will celebrate Australia’s pioneering spirit at the Heritage Village Australia Day markets. The event will feature heritage vehicle rides, live entertainment, heritage demonstrations and displays, market stalls and the True Blue Aussie Bushman’s Beard Competition. There will also be 500 free sausages on the BBQ from 8am to 9am. Heritage Village, 8am to 1.30pm.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said that the grants enable local communities to hold events that promote the objectives of Australia Day, including inspiring national spirit, embodying Australian values, and ensuring community participation.

"People in the Region have pride in their sense of identity and these grants will enable them to celebrate Australia Day in the way that best fits their own communities,” she said.
