2017 Talisman Saber Open Day is coming!

Published on 20 June 2017

Get on down to the Talisman Saber 2017 Open Day on Saturday 8 July at the Rockhampton Showgrounds for your chance to meet US, Australian and New Zealand troops and to check out the latest ADF rotary winged aircraft taking pride of place in centre ring.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Rockhampton had once again been working closely with the Australian Defence Force to highlight the Talisman Saber exercise.

"The Talisman Saber Open Day gives Rockhampton the opportunity to welcome both the US and Australian military to our Region and to show support for the biennial exercise that we are fortunate to have operating out of our city," Mayor Strelow said.

"It is also a time to remember the US servicemen that were here as our allies during the Second World War more than 70 years ago, and to appreciate the very close links we continue to share with them today."

Highlights of the Open Day will be performances by the 1 RAR Australian Army Band, aviation assets from the United States Marine Corps and Australia Defence Force as well as armoured vehicles, an M777 Howitzer, military police working dogs, combat engineers, explosive detection dogs and a range of military weapon systems.

Talisman Saber is a biennial combined training exercise, designed to train Australian and US Forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations, which will help improve ADF/US Military combat readiness and interoperability.

All proceeds from the event will go to Legacy Rockhampton and Central Queensland who help provide meaningful support directly to local families of deceased veterans and members of today's Australian Defence Force.
