Rockhampton Regional Council has announced that its 2016 musical production will be the Broadway hit, based on the books by PL Travers and the Disney Movie, Mary Poppins.

Director Wayne Scott Kermond and Choreographer Katie Kermond will return to create the production.

Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee, Cr Rose Swadling, said that she was very pleased to announce the musical.

“Mary Poppins is a wonderful family show. With the great musical numbers from the movie along with some new music, it is sure to be a hit with Central Queensland audiences,” she said.

Director Wayne Scott Kermond said that after Evita in 2015 he was looking forward to directing another musical at the Pilbeam Theatre.

“Katie and I are really excited to be heading back to Rockhampton,” he said.

“We have some great ideas and, with the help of some very talented local performers, musicians and production staff, we are going to create a magical experience,” he said.

Auditions will be held on Sunday 8 November, with the season running at the Pilbeam Theatre from 11 to 20 March 2016.

“Tickets will go on sale before Christmas, making this a wonderful family Christmas gift idea,” Cr Swadling said.
