Mayor Margaret Strelow's 48 hours in Singapore will be a whirlwind of meetings.

“When I first suggested to the Premier that there would be value to Rockhampton in a trade mission to Singapore I didn't realise that the Deputy Premier was planning to visit so shortly after!” Mayor Strelow said.

“It is testament to the strength of the relationship with Singapore that so many strategic meetings have been able to be coordinated so quickly.”

Mayor Strelow will join the Deputy Premier where it makes sense to be there, (for about half of her itinerary), and then hold a number of separate meetings as well.

“The Deputy Premier is very focussed on attracting investment and I am looking forward to putting our case for Singaporean investment as an example of opportunities in North Queensland.

“I will meet separately with representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Investment and other business representatives to advance the consumption of Central Queensland beef and other investments.

"I am keen to explore the idea of leveraging the high-profile that we have in Singapore with the possibility of our developing a 'regional food brand' leveraging our high recognition in Singapore,” Mayor Strelow said.

“This is an action item from our economic development strategy - and one that really makes sense in the competitive Singaporean market.

“To advance the cultural relationship with Singapore, I will be meeting with the Deputy Whip of the Singapore parliament Minister Teo as a follow-up to our first formal meeting in July at the APEC Cities Summit. And I will attend the opening of a major Queensland Art Exhibition called the Time of Others with the Deputy Premier as well as other cultural visits with her.

“I understand that I'm the only Mayor who will be joining the Deputy Premier on this occasion and it presents an amazing opportunity for us to consolidate 25 years of friendship with Singapore as we show our interest in widening the areas of collaboration and conversation.”

Mayor Strelow will be accompanied by Mr Russell Claus, Manager for Regional Development at Rockhampton Regional Council.
